Tones and Semitones
In the full version of The Music Reader's Toolbox – Scales section I go into great
detail explaining how to build a scale.
A scale, which means ladder, is made up of a series of eight steps. The intervals
between notes are either whole tones (T) or semitones (S).
The placement of each interval is very important.
All major scales use this pattern.
The scale takes its name from the first note of the scale.
